Arno Nothnagel | Founder & Immigration Adviser
From Rustenburg to Auckland
I moved from South Africa to New Zealand with my family in 2003. We experienced firsthand what could happen if you trust the wrong person with your visa process. While on our first flight to New Zealand, the government changed a policy that affected our visa pathway and eligibility. The immigration adviser we’d hired in South Africa to take care of our visa applications was nowhere to be found, and despite countless emails and telephone calls, we couldn’t reach him.
Arriving in a new country with just a few suitcases and a ton of uncertainty was an experience my family and I could never forget. Thankfully, my parents still qualified for residence, but the process took longer than expected, and we had to figure everything out ourselves. Our situation could’ve been avoided had we trusted the right person to help us at the start.

My family’s migration experience to New Zealand shaped how I help clients in their immigration journeys. Trust and transparency are key to my work and vital for achieving the best outcome for my clients.
Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked with various multinational companies and small—to medium-sized businesses, including performing artists and athletes, across most visa categories in New Zealand. I’ve also helped Australians and New Zealanders with international visas to countries like Papua New Guinea, South Africa, the USA and the UK.
For the past three years, I’ve served on the New Zealand Association for Migration and Investment Board (NZAMI) and was Vice-Chair for the 2023/2024 term. As part of my work with NZAMI, I’m involved in various working groups with Immigration NZ, the Minister, and other government and industry bodies.

"No traffic, very clean, and safe—the best place to raise your family" were just the top three pros my great uncle had emphasised when he encouraged our family to move from the Philippines to New Zealand. He migrated to New Zealand in the 1960s to pursue his postgraduate medical degree at the University of Otago and quickly fell in love with the country.
My family eventually took his word for it and moved to New Zealand in the late eighties when traffic was practically non-existent, and the rest of the world hadn't cottoned on to the awesomeness of our little slice of paradise.
The New Zealand I grew up in has changed a lot, but I still think it's the best place in the world, flaws and all, even after living nearly four years in Australia!
As someone who grew up as a migrant kid between two cultures, I understand what our clients and their families are going through. Relocating to a new country with a different language and culture can be daunting (not to mention confusing).
Knowledge fosters familiarity and appreciation for new environments, which is why I’m passionate about sharing stories and insights about New Zealand to help our community embrace and connect with its culture, people, and history and inspire them to make our beautiful country home.
Over the last 9 years, I have been immersed in design, branding and photography and worked with two major Australian retailers as part of their digital design and marketing teams. Before that, I was a Licensed Immigration Adviser, helping countless individuals and their families kickstart their futures in New Zealand.
As the creative Co-Founder of Noth & Co., you can find me behind the camera sharing stories, insights and the latest news updates with our community.
