South African High Commissioner Opens New VFS Passport Office in Auckland

On 15 July 2025, the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) opened a new VFS Global Passport Application Centre in Auckland. This is fantastic news for the South African community in New Zealand, especially for South Africans residing in the North Island.

The new Centre will improve civic services for South African nationals living in New Zealand. South African nationals can now lodge their passport renewal applications at two secure locations managed by VFS Global: Auckland and Wellington, eliminating the need for long-distance travel and improving service delivery.

It's worth noting that the two centres offer only the following services:

• Adult passport applications and renewals

• Child passport applications. First passport and ID applications can only be submitted at the SA High Commission in Wellington

What to expect from the new system:

• More efficient processing times for passport renewals

• Real-time tracking application status with optional SMS notifications
