Important Things You Need to Know Before Changing Jobs on an AEWV

It's that time of year again when job seekers start looking for new opportunities and employers seek to fill positions within their companies.

For many work visa holders, considering their next career move, finding a position that is relevant to their experience, meets Immigration New Zealand requirements, and ensures they can apply for Residence with the new job offer are the primary concerns.

Here are important things you need to know before changing jobs on an AEWV.

Before you resign from your current job, make sure:

  1. The new employer is accredited

  2. and has a valid job check in place for the new role

  3. and that you meet the requirements specified in the job check (e.g. work experience and/or qualifications)

  4. Additionally, if your goal is to apply for residence in the future, ensure that your new job offer aligns with this objective.

Job Change Application:

If you are changing jobs, you will need to submit a Job Change Application to INZ, which is not a new AEWV application, but rather a change of work conditions. In some instances, a new AEWV would be a better option depending on your individual circumstances.

If your current job enables you to sponsor your partner/spouse on a partnership-based work visa, ensure that your new job offer meets the INZ wage/salary requirements for partner work visa sponsorship.
